When to go to Socotra

According to your interests and preferred activities, seasonal weather is an important consideration. If you're a nature enthusiast, you should consider your visit from early October until May.

Monsoon season occurs from June until September. During this time, the sea is very rough and marine linkages are halted. However, wind surfing can be arranged in Monsoon season due to optimal winds.

Generally, wildlife and nature viewing is most rewarding from mid November through May.

Useful Tips

  • Most of your trip will consist of outdoor activities, so don't forget shoes or sandals suitable for hiking.

  • Please bring comfortable clothes made of materials that absorb the humidity and dry quickly.

  • If you plan on camping overnight in the mountains, bring a sweater, windbreaker, and thick socks.

  • If you plan on using your own equipment, bring snorkeling gear and a spare t-shirt.

  • For women who want to swim, it is recommended to bring a baggy t-shirt and leggings. This is not compulsory, however in order to respect the culture and avoid stares it is recommended.

  • A thin sleeping bag is recommended, although tents, mattresses, blankets and pillows are provided by us.

  • Mosquito repellent is highly recommended.

  • Wet wipes and toilet paper for personal hygiene when water will not be available.

  • A flashlight and batteries, which will come handy for camping and cave exploring.

  • A hat and sunscreen is crucial.

  • Cash for small purchases at village stores. There are no ATMs on the island or credit card services.

  • Bring a "British" type G with 3 rectangular pins as your electricity adapter. However, electricity is only avaliable in Hadiboh. We are happy to charge your devices with our car, so bring a car charger that works with a cigarette lighter.

  • Ask permission before taking pictures of people. Photographing women in particular is a major taboo.

  • Socotra is a UNESCO world heritage site, so be aware that it is illegal to remove any live material from the island such as plants, seeds, insects, large shells, etc.
